Three Deceptions

There are many, many deceptions in this world. At least three of these deceptions can cause you to move away from what it means, to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ, thus preventing you from entering the kingdom of heaven.

Deception #1

First, there is a great deception that involves professing Christians who defend their Christianity and their “qualification” to enter the kingdom of heaven, by listing their works. Jesus warned against this.

Mat 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

These professing Christians were listing the things “they” had done. They were “defending themselves” based on a listing of “their’ works. They did not acknowledge it was the “grace” of God, given to them as a gift of the Holy Spirit that was doing the will of the Father. They did not focus on the fact that it is “solely” the love of Jesus, that is required for them to enter the kingdom of heaven. And they did not acknowledge that everything that was done for them, was all for God’s glory.

Their expectation was, it is what they “do’, that would get them into heaven. They were not “true” believers because a true believer will not list his works as the means by which he enters the kingdom of heaven, but will acknowledge that it is only by the grace of God, that one can enter the kingdom of heaven. No human being, by his or her works, can qualify to enter the kingdom of heaven; even if they are good works or even great works.

There are people who genuinely believe they are Christians; they genuinely believe that they are born again, but are they really?

Jesus said there will definitely be a group of believers who will claim to know God by listing their works they performed in His name. He said there will be a group of believers who will fit this category; But in the end, they will be told by Jesus, to depart from Him.

Deception #2

A second type of deception will cause a person to worship Jesus in vain. Think about that; all of this person’s worship, will be in vain, simply because they don’t follow or teach the true gospel; they teach but human rules and traditions, setting aside the commandments of God.

Mark 7:1-9 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus and saw some of his disciples, eating food with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed. (The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders. When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.)

So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”

He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:

“‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’

You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”

And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!

We are not saved by our works or our own goodness or by following man-made rules and traditions. We are saved solely by the grace of God and by our acceptance of our Savior’s sacrifice on the cross for our sins. That’s it!

Are you in this faith?

It is by this faith alone you are saved, so that no one can boast before God.

2 Cor 13:5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?

Eph 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

Deception #3

The third deception assumes that one can acknowledge and fully accept the grace of God, yet see no real transformation in living out their life, as a Christian. In spite of this, they think they can still enter the kingdom of heaven. But it is not enough just to know and acknowledge what Jesus has done for you; that is, to know that you are saved only by the gift of the grace of God, because this truth must inspire and lead you to do good works. Otherwise, you are not “living out the faith.”

The Bible warns us not to deceive ourselves into thinking that we can “work” our way into the kingdom of heaven. But it also warns us not to think we can just listen to the word and not be willing to submit to the Holy Spirit in changing our lives in a positive and fruitful way.

James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

Once a person is truly born again, and they receive the Holy Spirit, it is the Holy Spirit that will help them do the work of the Father. There is no other way to fulfill the will of God.

We are to do the will of our Father! When we look only to Jesus Christ, we look to the perfect law keeper, who gives us our true freedom. And it is when we do this, that we are “blessed” by what we “do.”

James 1:23-25 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

Children of God

Is everyone a child of God?

From a physical standpoint, everyone of us is a child of God but from a spiritual perspective, we are not all children of God.

Some Christian ministers, pastors and teachers, as well as, leaders from other religions, are pushing for a one world religion. They are trying to unite all world religions, stating that “we are all the children of God.” This is despite the fact that many of their beliefs, deny Christ.

Is this correct?

Are we all children of God, regardless of our beliefs?

Are we all children of God simply because of our physical descent; that is, we can trace our ancestry back to the first human, Adam, who was created by God?

Let’s dig into God’s word, the Holy Bible, to find out.

We can know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are.

1 John 3:10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.

As children of God, we are under God and we love God. But the world is under the control of Satan.

1 John 5:19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

You must believe in the name of Jesus Christ, for Him to give you the right to become a child of God.

John 1:12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—

To be a child of God, you must be led by the Spirit of God.

Rom 8:14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.

Rom 9:8 In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring.

Gal 3:7 Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham.

It is faith in Jesus Christ that makes you a child of God.

Gal 3:26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith

The world does not know the true children of God because it does not accept Jesus Christ, as God, but we do.

1 John 3:1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Accepting immorality, pagan beliefs, and other sins, under the guise of accepting “diversity” is to be friends with the world, while ignoring God’s word. Doing so, makes you an “enemy” of God, not a child of God.

James 4:4 You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

As it was in Jesus’ day, there are those today who try to use deceit and trickery to pervert the ways of the Lord.

Acts 13:10 “You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord?

If we believe in Jesus Christ through faith and are led by the Spirit of God, then we are children of God, now. But yet, what we will be, has not been fully made known, but we know that when Christ appears we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

1 John 3:2-3 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

How can we know that we love the children of God?

1 John 5:2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.

The children of God love with actions and in truth.
1 John 3:18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

The true children of God are promised a great future in God’s plan. The creation itself, (for example, all of the desolate planets currently with no life) waits to be liberated from its bondage to decay, by the true children of God.

Rom 8:19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.

Rom 8:21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

We are all God’s creation but we are not all God’s children, unless we are led by His Holy Spirit.

A Prayer for Christians Who Suffer Persecution

In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,
Lord Jesus, we come to you today to offer our prayers for those believers around the world who are being persecuted for their belief in you.

Today, we pray for Christians in the following countries: Nigeria, India, Sudan and China.

We ask for protection and courage for those who risk their lives everyday for living out their faith in you. We ask that you will bless them with your peace that surpasses all understanding. Bless them with discernment, wisdom and strength so as to be able to stand against their enemies, both spiritual and carnal.

We ask for safe keeping for those who are in prison, hospitals and hiding places; for their loved ones, both family and friends.

Also, we pray for the governments and leaders who are influenced by the evil one, Satan, that are being used in his battle against you and your kingdom. We ask that you open their eyes, hearts and minds to the truth of the Gospel; that there is one God, the Lord Jesus Christ, and one church, the believers of Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ, we rebuke all evil that is active in these countries.

As well, we give thanks for our brothers and sisters in the Lord. We thank you for calling these individuals into your kingdom and your ministry. Thank you for guiding them each day as they commit their lives to serving you under such difficult situations. We are grateful for their commitment to the faith, and encouraged by their strong witness. We commit to remembering them and praying for them each day.

My brothers and sisters in the Lord, as you await for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ, may you find strength, courage and contentment in knowing that the day is coming when all your sufferings will be no more, and your greatest blessing will be to stand in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for eternity!

AMEN!

1 John 3:1-24

PART 1

John opens this chapter with a powerful message. When it comes to God’s love, he describes it by using a word that has a ‘strong expression and meaning. One translation describes John’s expression of God’s love by using the word “extravagant.” (The Voice).

Think of it this way; extravagant means to go beyond the norm. Some people are extravagant in the way they spend their money, for example; spending way too much on material things.

Extravagant means, nothing but the best of everything! God’s love towards us, simply put is, He wants us to have nothing less than the best of His love. His love is ‘over the hill,’ ‘inexpressible,’ ‘beyond measure’, ‘beyond explanation,’ ‘beyond understanding,’ and, it never changes.

As human beings, I believe we will always struggle with accepting the fullness of God’s love that He has for us. God’s love is far too rich and far too deep for us humans to fully comprehend. One thing is for sure; try to understand all you want, question all you want, and even throw your hands up in frustration all you want (when doubting God’s love). It still won’t change a thing. God’s love for us is far beyond our human understanding. But thankfully, it is not beyond our reach of acceptance.

Whenever you struggle about whether or not God loves you, read, over and over and over again Romans 8:35-39.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

PART 2

After John finishes talking about God’s amazing love that He has for us, John suddenly dives right into talking about sin in our lives. At first, I thought, why would John go from talking about something beautiful and positive as God’s love, to talking about something that is ugly and negative – ‘sin‘. Then it came to me. “Priority!”

John started off with the number one topic of importance in a believers life and that is how much God loves us!. Then he spoke about the next priority. He deals with the one thing that interferes with accepting God’s love, and that is ‘sin.’

By doing so, John’s spiritual message to all God’s creation is that there is nothing more important, more powerful and more assuring than God’s love for His creation; so much so, that even sin cannot separate us from God’s love once we receive it.

Romans 8:38-39 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

PART 3

John also talks about ‘habitual sin‘; sin that is repeated over and over again, but done knowingly and willingly. This, according to John, is a dangerous situation to be in. When we think of doing something by habit we think of something that we can’t control, but want to.

When John speaks of ‘habitual sin’ he’s referring to the willingness to do something over and over because we want to. He makes it clear that one who is, and remains in this way by choice, is one who does not truly know the Lord. In the spiritual realm there is a difference between ‘sinning‘ and ‘habitual sinning‘.

Sinning is ‘stumbling.’ It is temporarily losing sight of God and focusing on ourselves. But then we realize we have strayed and therefore, we repent and turn back to God.

Habitual sinning, as John puts it, is the ‘ongoing disobedience towards God that does not include repentance.” Ongoing sinning without ongoing repentance is intentional and is a dangerous path to continue on, and if not addressed can lead to a person not entering the kingdom of God.

1 Cor 6:9-11 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

The best way of keeping sin from becoming habitual sin and taking over our lives, is to stay close to God on a daily basis. Be faithful in reading His word and be reminded of His love for us in Romans 8:35-39.

The only thing that can separate you from the love of God is your personal choice to sin willfully after you have received the knowledge of the truth.

Heb 10: 26-27; 31 26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.; 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Amen

1 John 2:1-29

PART 1

John immediately shows by his words where his priorities lie. Those whom he watches over, are his children. He begins by encouraging his children as to what must be done in order to remain faithful and obedient to God. Of course, the “children” he is referring to are not his biological children, but his “children in the Lord.”

PART 2

In 1 John 2 : 12-14, it is clear that John is writing to different age groups; the mothers and the fathers, and the young.

As we dig deeper, we notice a more meaningful purpose to his writing. When he refers to his children, he is referring to all his brothers and sisters, of all ages, who know the Father.

He first addresses his message to the young. He writes to the young informing them, twice, that  they have the “power to defeat the evil one.” Then he writes to the mothers and fathers, twice, saying both times, “You have known Him, God, as the Creator.” This signifies that the elderly believers have known God for most all their lives, and so are witnesses to his glory and creation. John says the young are strong in spirit, because the word of God lives in them, which one must have, to stand against Satan and his evil actions.

PART 3

John starts out in the beginning of chapter 2 reminding his children to work at avoiding sin. However, he does understand that we will never avoid sin completely. His understanding is revealed, when he writes to all his spiritual children reminding them and encouraging them with words of comfort and hope, (1 John 2:1). He tells them that they have Jesus. John compares Jesus to a high powered lawyer who goes to the Father, defending us, on our behalf. (Chapter 2 verse 1-translation- The Voice).

John then closes his letter with a stern warning about the antichrist. (1 John 2:18-19). As he talks about the battle with sin, in the beginning of chapter 2, he now talks about the “chief” of all sin – the antichrist.

Amen

1 John 1:1-10

PART 1

There’s an early Christian writing that shares a charming story about the Apostle John. It goes like this:

At a time when John was so old, that he had to be carried to church services, he would say to the people over and over, “Little children, love one another.” When asked why he repeated the same thing, he answered, “It’s the Lord’s commandment, and if you keep it, that long suffices.”

In John’s first letter he tells us three important facts; 1) that God is love, 2) that we are to love one another, and 3) that we are to show our love for God by obeying him. John’s goal was to encourage unity that comes from love.

PART 2

In starting his first letter, John jumps right in with the bare, simple truth. He, and the other apostles, have heard, seen, and touched the truth, the eternal life and the way to God. (1 John 1:1-4)

John places a strong emphasis on “fellowship with one another, and fellowship with God.” He also focuses on another key aspect of God; God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all.” (1John 1:5-7)

Ending the first chapter of his first letter, John reminds us that, “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8)

Amen!

Egypt, Assyria & Israel PEACE

Isaiah 19: 23-25 that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian will come into Egypt and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians will serve with the Assyrians.

24 In that day Israel will be one of three with Egypt and Assyria—a blessing in the midst of the land, 25 whom the Lord of hosts shall bless, saying, “Blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance.”

This will only be accomplished by God Almighty

THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN!
TRUE PEACE!
